Hi, we’re Kim and Doug, a slightly early retired couple from the US. After having a moto of “work till ya drop” for a good portion of our respective careers we started to explore what would we need to retire. To our surprise, the numbers looked better than we had anticipated, that led us to start formalizing plans with initial thoughts to retire to Portugal. However, the Portugal plan has now been replaced with a “Slow travel” plan. After going through a deep purge, we downsized by selling our home to purchase a condo and became debt free. Being debt free was the key, that has afforded us to live on a moderate budget and will allow us to enjoy years of slow travel around the world.

Kim’s passion for travel started with her parents, where her father flew for TWA,  that had her frequently traveling to Europe during her teens. She even lived in London and Frankfurt,  to study as a British Butler, for 7-months before meeting Doug.  Doug had a slightly nomadic upbringing and has lived in several states. He got his travel bug from his time in the US Navy, where he traveled to Europe, Middle East, South America, and the Caribbean. He is looking forward to toasting the memory of his father when he has the opportunity of joining a big game safari (no-kill).

Throughout our marriage, we’ve continued to share in the joy of traveling with family and friends. We’ve long said, our favorite way of travel is to rent a car and immerse ourselves in the region. Now we are setting out to see the differences and similarities of all the worlds peoples and look forward to learning new cultures and customs.
